Project Montego Bay Sport is about more than just the construction of a sports venue. It’s about inspiring and empowering future champions of Jamaican sport. It’s about transforming Montego Bay into a centre of sporting excellence for generations to come. It’s about legacy, my Dad was born in Montego Bay and raised in nearby Maldon Village before he left Jamaica, so there is a special personal significance.
By blending the wam Jamaican hospitality and the famous “potcova-knocking” buzz that world- class sport generates throughout the island, with the picturesque locations and agreeable climate of Montego Bay, this project will attract visitors and athletes from around the world for training, competition, and entertainment. It will serve as a destination for sport-inspired tourism.
Despite a rich sporting heritage, Jamaica lacks sufficient infrastructure to effectively support local talent development in a variety of sports, or to host international events. Designed to meet international sporting standards, featuring an aquatic centre, a versatile indoor arena, athletic development facilities, and quality training resources, this project will address this need by creating a dynamic combination of performance, wellness, and community engagement. It will serve as an elite hub for athletes, within Jamaica, across the Caribbean, and beyond, to accelerate their sporting careers.
Finally, with anticipated economic impact including the creation of jobs, diversifying and expanding the tourism industry, and increasing community participation in recreational and competitive sport, particularly among the youth, this project aims to deliver lasting social and cultural benefits, as well as financial returns. It will serve as a bedrock of support for the physical and mental wellness of the local community.
